STAKEFORD JUNIORS 3 - 1 KYPC GALAXY
Stakeford Vs KYPC Galaxy
Pin Point Junior Recruitment League Division 2
11.45 am
Today’s game was away to Stakeford who are doing well in the league so far this season and are picking up some very good wins so the Galaxy lads knew they were up against quality opposition. Galaxy themselves came into this game on the back of 2 successful wins in their previous 2 games which has seen them close the gap and sit mid-table, only 4 points off 2nd place.
The game was underway on a great size pitch and both sides looking to get the 1st chance at goal and it was Stakeford who created the first opening of the game but Jamie in goal watched the ball sail over the goal. Stakeford were coming on strong but their skilful right winger could not get past Elliott who was standing his ground and winning every challenge he made. Galaxy came forward and created their 1st clear cut chance when Callum ran onto a superb through ball from Scott who split their defence in half but Callum failed to find the net. Stakeford again came at Galaxy but Luke at right back was staying strong and the long balls over the top was superbly dealt with by James, at centre back and cleared away from danger every time. Galaxy forced a number of corners but failed to connect with any of the balls into the box. Ethan was again having a great game and was putting in a great shift in the middle and so to was Dean as his never say die attitude was clear to see and mid-way through the half went in strong and came away with the ball to play Callum through but their keeper was there to sweep up. The 1st half was coming to a close and Stakeford were looking very dangerous going forward but it ended 0-0 at half time.
The lads came in at half time and had put a real effort into the 1st half and knew they were in with a great chance if they could get the 1st goal to go on and get something from this game. The second half opened up for both teams as it was end to end football and Stakeford grabbed the 1st goal 5 mins into the second half as they counter attacked as Galaxy were out of shape and it left the Galaxy backline with no chance 1-0 Stakeford. A few minutes later and Stakeford quickly grabbed their 2nd goal as again on the counter they punished Galaxy and went 2-0 up. Galaxy started to play again and Jordan played a lovely ball down the line for Luke to run onto and there was no one in the box to finish from a superb attacking move. Galaxy then again went close as Dominic turned on the volley after a smart through ball from Ethan, but the ball just went over the bar. The sucker punch came as Galaxy on the attack with Sam on the left side who jinxed past his man and played the ball back to Callum who’s shot was blocked and Stakeford on the attack scored their 3rd goal to make it 3-0. The last 15 minutes Galaxy reacted and Callum raced clear and forced their keeper into a great save but minutes after Scott delivered a ball into the box and with the keeper under pressure he dropped the ball into the net 3-1. Galaxy quickly regained possession and again Callum released one on one from Scotts through ball smashed it just wide. Then with 2 minutes remaing Sam Dominic and Callum combined to play Scott in but his shot just went over the bar, 3-1 Stakeford full time.
The lads came in at full time devastated as they knew they had put in a great shift and no one could fault them for the effort and their attitude as they showed that once again they are tough opposition to break down. The attacking side of the game we can improve and we need to put our chances away as teams at this level will punish you if your sloppy in front of goal. Overall disspoiting result as we could have grabbed at least the draw but we get our heads up and look forward to next weeks game.
