Blyth Town Whites Vs KYPC Galaxy

Pin Point Junior Recruitment League Cup Round 3

12.30 pm

Another weekend and it was another cup game for Galaxy this time it was the League Cup and Galaxy were drawn away to very tricky opposition in Blyth Town Whites. Todays opponents have only been beaten once all season in their current League and are rated very highly so Galaxy knew they were going to be in a real cup style feel game today. Galaxy travelled away in high spirits despite last weeks defeat and their was a few changes made in the side with Jamie starting in goal and the back three consisting of Luke, James and Elliott and also the midfield consisting of a central three with Ethan, Jake and Scott all playing leaving two up front with Callum and Dominic leading the line which left Dean, Sam and Jordan on the bench.

It was the prefect start for Galaxy as within minutes of the game starting Scott won a free kick 30 yards out and with his resulting free kick Callum headed home to give Galaxy an early lead 1-0. From the off Galaxy looked to win the ball back and on 10 minutes Galaxy won another free kick this time as Ethan used his strength and with it been  closer and more central to the goal Scott struck the ball and with the Blyth Town keeper pulling of a great save but unable to hold onto the ball Dominic followed up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner 2-0 Galaxy. This seemed to give Blyth the incentive they needed to try and get a grasp of the cup tie and that is what they did as they took the game to Galaxy and credit to Blyth it was a fantastic response as they caused trouble for Galaxys backline on
a few occasions but Jamie in goal kept the Blyth attack from scoring. Jamies distribution was impressive as was the width Luke and Elliott were finding as Galaxy looked to attack. Mid way through the 1st half Galaxy were not been allowed to settle on the ball as Jake was trying to break the Blyth attacks up and looking to free Ethan and Scott and support the Galaxy attack when possible and as Galaxy attacked the Blyth defence, they won the ball and counter attacked Galaxy and got a deserved goal for the pressure they had put Galaxy under 2-1. Galaxy then picked up their game and with a  few changes made as Sam and Dean came on for Jake and Dominic and Galaxy changed to 4 in the midfield Galaxy started to get a grasp of the game again and Sam won a throw in on the half way line Luke took the throw in to Scott who picked up the ball and took on his marker before un leashing a 30 yard thunder bolt straight into the top corner with his magic left foot Galaxy scored their 3rd goal of the game 3-1 half time.

Galaxy came in at half time and with 1 change been made with Jordan coming on for Elliott the lads were told they need to keep it tight and keep their heads as it was a good tough physical 1st half. The game started off with Blyth on the front foot but they again couldn't find an away past James at the back who is having a great season, Ethan was starting to pull the strings, going close on a few occasions but not been unable to find the back of the net, and with Scott in the middle, but Blyth pounced and scored their 2nd of the game which was fully deserved as they kept applying pressure to Galaxy 3-2. Dean on the left side of midfield was getting stuck in and mid way through the 2nd half he won a great battle against the Blyth right back and cut inside taking on 3 players before just smashing his shot wide of the post. Blyth came close again as they attacked down the right side and looked as though they would get the ball into the box for their striker who was unmarked but Jordan made a great last ditch tackle after making a superb recovery run and cleared from danger. The game was coming to an end and both sides were getting stuck in and the battle was great to watch but Galaxy kept their heads and earned the victory and put their name in the hat for the next round as the Referee, who had a fantastic game, blew the whistle for full time, 3-2 Galaxy.

The boys came in disappointed not to have been able to get their game going throughout but that was full credit to Blyth who never allowed Galaxy to settle and the lads at full time were told this and given the pat on the back they deserved as they had battled their way through and come out with the result which was the most pleasing thing and we look forward to next weeks league game.
