This morning’s game seen Galaxy face the short trip down the road to face Coast Soccer with a fully fit squad and looking for back to back wins following on from last week’s win at home to Corbridge. On arrival at Coast Soccer the first thing that came into both managers thoughts was how small the home sides pitch was as there was a real lack of width as well as length which was going to disrupt our game but Galaxy are good enough to adapt to smaller pitches and couldn’t wait to get kicked off.
The starting line-up is always tough to call with all the lads been good enough to start every week Galaxy lined up with Jamie in goal, the back three was Luke, James and Elliott and the midfield had Scott and Ethan in the centre with Sam and Dean on the wings and Callum up front leaving Jake, Dominic and Jordan on the bench to start with. The game got under way with both sides looking to take an early lead it was Coast Soccer who came the closest after 5 minutes as the tested Jamie out with a shot from just outside the area and Jamie was to set his mark for the remainder of the game as he made crucial saves throughout. The early stages Coast Soccer was pressing more and they again went close when Jamie had to tip over at full strength a great free kick by the Coast Soccer centre back. Galaxy grew into the game and it wasn’t before long the ball was been passed out from the back with full backs Luke and Elliott looking to get the ball at every opportunity and feed Sam and Dean down the wings who were causing havoc for the Coast Soccer full backs, as well as defending superbly as they won every challenge they went in for coming away with the ball each time. With just over 15 minutes gone in the game it was turning into an end to end game with both sides pushing on, Ethan was starting to win the ball in midfield and supply Callum up front who was having a great battle with their centre back and looking to get beyond him but still Galaxy couldn’t make a break through. A number of corners fell for Galaxy as well as Coast Soccer in the 1st half but it was Galaxy who broke the deadlock with the best bit of play so far the game had seen with quick passing and two touch football Scott, who is in peak form at the moment, picked the ball up 30 yards away from the goal and jinxed by two players before smashing home into the bottom left hand corner of the Coast Soccer goal 0-1 Galaxy. It was to remain this score line for the remainder of the 1st half as Galaxy grabbed the goal they deserved.
Galaxy re-grouped at half time and kicked of the second half full of confidence and looked to attack the Coast Soccer goal and grab the 2nd goal that would have killed the game off. The Coast Soccer strike force had two players up front and they just could not find a way through James at centre back, who was having a great game which is no surprise as he never lets anyone down and is a rock at the back and Jordan who was not allowing any crosses come from the right side and broke up the play and coolly passed out from the back. Galaxy did their fair share of defending but were also looking dangerous on the attack and Ethan could have sealed it as he raced clear after Dominic had held the ball up using his strength and played Ethan through with only the keeper to beat but the Coast Soccer keeper made a fantastic save with his feet and the ball was cleared. The game was been won in midfield and Scott was dominating and Jake was picking up all the 1st and 2nd balls for Galaxy as he does every game and it was to be Galaxy’s day as the final whistle went given them all 3 points 0-1 Galaxy full time.
Reflection at the full time whistle for the Galaxy lads was they hadn’t played superb football but it was a game were they all dug in deep and defended superbly as a team and they scored the goal that was required to win the game which was vital to collect all 3 points. Great to get back to back wins which has given the boys the confidence they are good enough to compete in this division and we look forward to next week’s game.
