KYPC GALAXY 3 - 1 CORBRIDGE UNITED

KYPC Galaxy 3-1 Corbridge United

Pin point Junior Recruitment League Division 2

10.30am

Today’s game was switched at the last minute as Corbridge’s pitch was deemed unplayable and we  switched to our home venue as our pitch was deemed playable and was in excellent condition dispute the overnight frost. Galaxy looked up for this on arrival and even in the warm up they looked sharp and ready to go against a Corbridge side that were lying above Galaxy and had picked up some great results against big sides already so far.

Galaxy lined up with Jamie in goal, Jordan and Elliot in the full back positions and James in the heart of the defence. Luke and Sam on the wings and defensive midfielder Scott and attacking midfielder Ethan in the middle with Callum up front, which left Dean, Jake and Dominic on the bench. Corbridge won the toss and decided to switch ends and make Galaxy kick into the sun 1st half but it was to prove a massive mistake as Galaxy from the off were dominant in every position on the pitch and in the early stages went close with 2 efforts one from Scott and one from Callum just both going wide. Corbridge attacked well in the opening stages and after a crunching 50-50 which Jordan went in for it resulted in a quick change of plan with Luke dropping in at full back and Dean entering for the injured Jordan. It was 10 minutes into the game and Luke was over lapping the skilful Sam and the link up play was fantastic as both of them never stopped all game and they were delivering some quality balls into the box with their pace getting them past the full back on each occasion. The 1 st goal came on 12 minutes as Scott and Ethan were winning every 1st and 2nd ball in the middle of the park and fed Callum through who jinxed one way and then the other past his marker and smashed the ball past the Corbridge keeper, 1-0 Galaxy. Galaxy built on this and went from strength to strength with Dean and Elliot on the left side combining superbly and playing some excellent one twos with each other and looked solid and were proving to be vital players into days game. Then on 20 minutes Galaxy struck again and it was a superb attacking move as Galaxy captain Scott drove at the Corbridge midfield and skipped past 2 and passed the ball off to Callum who held of his marker and laid Scott off and with a shot just outside the box it nestled into the side of the net, 2-0 Galaxy fully deserved. Corbridge threatened with long balls over the top but James was winning everything and playing the ball out from the back and Galaxy went in 2-0 up at half time.

Simple instruction for the lads at half time was more of the same and Galaxy who now had Dominic and Jake on for Callum and Ethan, were bossing the game and Scott was having his game of the season as everything was going through him. Galaxy mid-way through the second half introduced Ethan again and this was to prove vital as they then got the 3rd goal of the goal which seemed to kill Corbridge off as Scott played Ethan through on goal who smashed home from 10 yards and make it 3-0 Galaxy. Galaxy were in total control and Jake was do his usual job off unsettling the opposition and break the play up and playing it easy whilst Dominic was holding the ball up and turning his marker and was very unlucky not to make it 4 as the Corbridge keeper made a fantastic save from his close range effort. A clean sheet would have been very much deserved as Corbridge who threatened, but it was a solid performance from the backline to keep them quiet, scored with the very last kick of the game to make it 3-1 from a corner with everyone failing to clear and falling asleep but it was a great win and a massive result for Galaxy.

The lads came in at the end and were thrilled not just because they had won the game, but they had done it in style which at times this season they have shown in patches but failed to do it throughout but did so very well today. The goals that were scored were of real quality and every single one of them did their jobs today which was very pleasing,
