KYPC Galaxy’s 2nd game of the season was against the same team they played in their 1st game as the fixture computer through up the surprise. Having been beaten 2-0 at home by Heaton Hawks, Galaxy knew they were up against a quality side and they would have to perform a lot better this evening if they were to stand any chance of getting the win they were looking for. Galaxy were dealt a blow in the warm up as defender James who was making his comeback to the side following his summer holidays took ill that day and was unable to play any part in what was an excellent advert for Junior football.
Heaton Hawks again started the brighter and within the 1st 10 minutes of the game Galaxy could not settle and looked all over the place and were lucky still remain at 0-0 after some close range shots were saved by keeper Jamie. Galaxy grew into the game and started to settle down and play football and looked more confident on the ball as they started to create chances for strikers Callum and Dominic. There was 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half and it was Heaton Hawks who scored 1st as Galaxy cleared a corner the ball fell to their defender who played the ball back into the box and set their right winger up with another chance to cross the ball and it was deflected into the goal, 1-0 Heaton Hawks. Almost immediately Heaton Hawks raced into a 2-0 lead as a lucky bounce off their striker’s knee bounced perfectly for him to race 1 on 1 and slot the ball into the corner 2-0. The action wasn’t over yet as Galaxy were awarded a penalty with 1 minute left of the 1st half, but was missed as their keeper made a great save and pushed the ball away from going into the bottom corner and it meant Galaxy trailed 2-0 at the break.
Galaxy given a stern talking to from both managers at the break about the 1st half performance looked fired up for the 2nd half and they took the game to Heaton Hawks as they started to dominate in the key areas of the pitch and it wasn’t before too long Galaxy were test the oppositions keeper out with a few shots. Heaton Hawks looking dangerous when they pushed forward on the counter created a few chances but nothing that made keeper Jamie work hard for. Galaxy kept pushing forward and got the goal they deserved as Dean played striker Callum through who used his pace and power to smash home and make it 2-1. Galaxy on top now and looking for the equaliser were awarded another pen as there was a push from behind on Ethan, the ref pointed to the spot again. The same story again as Galaxy missed the pen and the keeper saved the shot. Galaxy were again awarded another penalty and surely it would be 3rd time lucky but it wasn’t as their keeper who had been fantastic all day, saved Galaxy’s 3rd pen of the game. It was a great game to watch and again Galaxy pushed forward and created chance after chance with Heaton Hawks looking to counter but was broke down by the Galaxy defence. There was minutes remaining and Galaxy raced clear but again their keeper stopped us from scoring that goal Galaxy fully deserved and it finished 2-1 Heaton Hawks.
At the end of the game both the Heaton Hawks managers commented on how they did not deserve the win and a draw would have been a fair result which was nice feedback from them as well as the referee commenting the exact same words. Galaxy looked down at the end but both managers commented on the excellent performance and that they couldn’t have asked anymore of them apart from scoring a few pens which could have helped our cause but again Galaxy have shown they can fight amongst the big boys in the North East and we look forward to our next game.
