After a summer of changes for Galaxy and a very successful pre-season campaign they faced Heaton Hawks in their 1^st league game of the new season at home. The change came back in May as both managers Adam and Liam decided that Galaxy needed a new challenge and after long discussions in the Shire horse and conference calls they both agreed to move from the NEYDL on a Saturday to the Pin Point Junior Recruitment League on a Sunday. The decision was made and the challenge was set for Galaxy and we applied for the 3^rd or 4^th Division but after a committee meeting at the Pin Point Junior Recruitment League, Galaxy were placed in Division 2 along with 9 other very strong sides that have a vast of experience.

Galaxy went into their 1^st game of the season having beat Heaton Hawks in a pre-season friendly just over 3 weeks back but knew that would not count for anything as both sides had players missing and this is when the real business started. Galaxy having previously the day before retained the Rikki Todd Memorial Cup, were missing key defender James but welcomed new signings Dominic and Dean for their debut’s and after losing a few players in pre-season, who have joined KYPC Storm, had 11 first team players to choose from. Galaxy looked really nervous and in the 1^st opening 20 minutes didn’t really threaten the Heaton Hawks goal and it was the opposition doing all the pressing and thoroughly took a deserved 1-0 lead into half time after their striker raced clear to finish with 5 minutes remaining of the 1^st half.

Galaxy re-grouped at half time and looked sharper in the 2^nd half but they were still lacking the cutting edge to get that equaliser they needed to get back into the game. Heaton Hawks looked dangerous on the counter attack and with 2 minutes remaining the scored the killer goal and made it 2-0 as Galaxy pushed forward they broke away and sealed all 3 points. It was a tough start for Galaxy as Heaton Hawks punished them and showed their vast experience they have, having previously played in Division 1 last season and only dropped down to division 2 on request.
